Here are some interesting reads for marketing professionals who are interested in staying up-to-date on the latest marketing, social media and overall newsworthy happenings.

For local Dallas news – sadly this week the news broke that cherished Dallas real estate icon Ebby Halliday died Tuesday evening at the age of 104. Halliday spent decades shaping how North Texas real estate is sold and turned a one-woman residential real estate office into one of the country’s largest residential real estate companies.

On the consumer tech side, Apple’s CEO Timothy D. Cook this week presented the latest version of the company’s iPhone along with several “revamped devices.”

Another great tech read comes from GeekWire’s App of the Week. LinkedIn Lookup can help you quickly find information about your co-workers on LinkedIn. So say goodbye to searching for your fellow colleagues on Google (especially those with a common last name).

Digital marketing experts should take a look at this article from Huffington Post. Vala Afshar, Chief Digital Evangelist from Salesforce, discusses an in-depth approach to the five C’s of digital marketing: consumer, context, content, commerce and convergence.

Additionally, a surprising study of over 1,000 millennials shows that this misunderstood group of young adults prefers human interaction to digital.

“Contrary to what you may expect from the ‘Facebook Generation,’ Mattersight found that only 1% (one percent!) of Millennials prefer to contact a brand on social media for customer service purposes. The majority would rather call a customer service line and talk to a living breathing human (even though frustrating past experiences sometimes deter them from doing so),” said Elizabeth Mitchell from PRNewser.

Moving on to social media related news…

PR Daily published an article that poses the question, “Does Facebook really reward long-form content?” To test this question, Gini Dietrich, founder and CEO of Arment Dietrich Inc., conducted a test to gauge whether Facebook is a viable social platform for businesses. Check out the article to learn the answer.

On the other hand, Mashable reports Facebook is making it a lot easier for companies to run their business page through the platform by opening up two new sections: shopping and services. These sections allow businesses to feature their products and service directly on their Facebook pages.

A new update to the Twitter app for Windows 10 brings users group direct messages for private conversations, along with a “Happening Now” section that summarizes popular tweets.

Another great social media read relates to seven things CMOs need to know about the new Instagram ads. “We’ve spent the last 18 months establishing the platform for large brands,” Jim Squires, director of market operations at Instagram, told eMarketer. “The next logical step is to empower businesses of all sizes. Being able to target narrower segments and achieve different types of objectives is essential.”

Lastly, many people desire a company culture that is aligned with their professional growth and development. To help achieve this, Entrepreneur published a piece about growing your business through happiness. They provided five steps to create your own happiness culture, and one of the steps ties into defining your core values.

Stay tuned later in the week for another recap! Remember to comment below with any feedback on the articles, and let us know what you’d like to see more (or less) of in weeks to come!
